Caltrans will modify a newly installed Fort Bragg fence within the next couple of weeks after residents said it blocks views of the Pacific and Noyo Headlands.
The fence is part of a roughly $9.5 million Highway 1 project aimed at pedestrian safety and ADA access, replacing a shorter wooden barrier removed for sidewalk widening.
City officials said permit and project documents indicated the replacement fencing was supposed to match previous conditions, fueling questions about why the new structure was substantially higher.
Residents, local business workers and a city council candidate said the taller fence changes the character of a key gateway to the coastal town, undercutting Fort Bragg's identity as a seaside destination.
