Two Russian servicemen were killed and others injured after what Russia said were Friday strikes on diesel fuel trucks serving the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Alexei Likhachev, head of Russia's state nuclear corporation, said the trucks were delivering fuel for a civilian mission and were hit close to the plant's perimeter.
Diesel is critical at the six-reactor station because backup generators keep nuclear fuel cool when external power lines fail; both outside links were down for nearly three weeks in August and September.
The U.N. nuclear watchdog keeps monitors at the site and last month helped secure a local ceasefire to repair power links, as Moscow and Kyiv continue trading accusations over risks at Europe's largest nuclear plant.
