The shift would extend Samsung’s move toward larger, higher-resolution sensors: a bigger 4x module could cover roughly 1x to 4.9x more cleanly through sensor cropping while improving light capture.
For zoom-heavy users, the trade-off comes after 5x: shots from 5x to 10x would rely on digital crop from the 4x sensor, and anything beyond 10x would lean more on computational processing.
Samsung already moved in this direction on the S24 Ultra, replacing a native 10x lens with a 50MP 5x periscope, and the S27 redesign could also free internal space for battery, cooling or other camera upgrades.
