Two suspects accused in a Gaston County, North Carolina, family shooting were found dead Friday in a crashed vehicle after an Ohio police pursuit, ending an interstate manhunt.
Athens-area troopers tried to stop the vehicle around 8 a.m.; authorities said it fled, swerved to avoid spike strips and crashed, after which officers heard two gunshots and used a drone to find Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, dead inside.
Gaston County detectives had charged both with 2 counts of first-degree murder and 2 counts of attempted first-degree murder after Thursday's shooting on Forbes Road left Victoria "Heather" Moore, 50, and Megan "Josiah" Bumgardner, 38, dead.
Two other victims remained in critical but stable condition Friday, while investigators said everyone involved appeared to know one another and called the attack an isolated incident.
Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the pursuit, crash and deaths, and Gaston County police said the motive remains undisclosed even though the search for the suspects has ended.
