Trump on Sunday showcased construction outside the White House and said recent upgrades had rescued a building he described as being in "very bad condition."
In a Truth Social post, he said the exterior "skin" was practically falling off, blamed past presidents for neglect, and said Interior Department officials and contractors were carrying out the work.
The renovation push already includes fortifying the North Portico, adding gold ornamentation to the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, and paving over the historic Rose Garden.
The changes have drawn criticism from some preservationists and legal challenges, with the administration also planning a 90,000-square-foot ballroom after demolishing the East Wing.
The White House project fits a broader remaking of Washington landmarks, including work at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the Kennedy Center and a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch.
