Malwarebytes Finds Scam Texts Peak 874% at Noon, Rising 50% by Friday

Malwarebytes’ April 15-July 14 analysis found U.S. scam texts hit their highest volume around 12 p.m. ET—about 874% above 1 a.m.—and climbed through the week to a Friday peak.
More than 20 scam categories also showed criminals matching channels to tactics: job scams often used email, romance scams social media, and tech-support scams phone calls.
The web remained the top scam entry point ahead of email and SMS, with Malwarebytes saying it blocks about 500,000 phishing websites a day.
Impersonation leaned on familiar names and brands: MrBeast appeared in about 30% of impersonation scams, while Google led brand spoofs ahead of Microsoft, Apple, Roblox and Amazon.
Gaming scams are also intensifying—Roblox activity rose 15% and Steam 19% in a month—with about half of cases carrying potential losses of $1,000 or more.
