Apple Builds Siri to Swap in GPT-5.6 and Claude as EU Rules Pressure Access

Private iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate frameworks show Apple has built Siri to support third-party AI at two levels: as an extension and as a full server-model replacement.
One protocol, Model Delegation, lets Claude appear in Siri’s “Ask...” menu, interpret requests and hand Apple-system actions back to Siri, which then executes tasks like creating Reminders entries.
A second protocol in Model Manager Services goes further, allowing a model such as GPT-5.6 to receive Siri’s planner prompt and tool definitions, call system actions, access returned personal data and deliver answers through Siri’s interface and voice.
The demo showed ChatGPT finding and summarizing emails, extracting action points and sending a Messages app note, while another Claude example created a CSV file that Siri itself could not handle.
Claude is not yet available in the macOS 27 release candidate and Apple has not opened the needed entitlement to outsiders, but the architecture suggests broad future interoperability shaped in part by the EU Digital Markets Act.
