Q: Why is Apple's most heavily promoted iOS 27 feature secretly locking millions out of the true upgrade experience?

Apple’s headline iOS 27 upgrade is Siri AI and the broader Apple Intelligence system, but it is not available to most iPhone owners because Apple ties it to newer hardware, regional rules, and paid-service limits. While iOS 27 itself runs on iPhone 11 and later, the flagship AI experience requires at least an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, with some of the most advanced Siri features reserved for even newer devices with more memory, such as iPhone 17 Pro models and iPhone Air. Apple says those features depend on stronger on-device models and, in some cases, at least 12GB of memory. That means millions of people with fully supported phones, including iPhone 11 through iPhone 15, get the update but not the feature Apple has marketed most heavily. Access is narrowed further by geography. Siri AI is not initially available on iPhone and iPad in the European Union, and Apple says it is unavailable in China while regulatory issues are unresolved. It also rolls out as a beta, requires supported languages, matching device and Siri language settings, an eligible account region, and in some cases a waitlist. Even among eligible users, some Apple Intelligence tools are capped by daily server-side usage limits, with higher limits tied to certain iCloud+ plans. So the “true” iOS 27 experience is split into tiers: basic iOS 27 for all supported devices, standard AI for a smaller group, and the fullest Siri AI experience for the newest hardware in approved regions.
