FBI Claims 20% Murder-Rate Drop as Patel Touts 1,039 Terror Plots Thwarted

A 20% fall in the national murder rate over 18 months will headline Kash Patel’s Senate testimony, where he plans to call 2025 the biggest year-over-year violent-crime reduction in U.S. history.
Patel’s prepared remarks tie the gains to a 90% rise in violent-crime arrests, a 30% increase in gang-member arrests, and broader backing from the Trump administration, aggressive enforcement and expanded AI use.
1,039 suspected attackers were stopped from carrying out terrorist plots, including an alleged ISIS-inspired suspect near Pittsburgh this weekend, while 4,260 arrests were linked to foreign terrorist organizations.
The FBI also plans to cite 3,258 kilograms of fentanyl seized, about 11,000 child victims identified, more than 5,000 predators and traffickers arrested, and the capture in Venezuela of a 10th Ten Most Wanted fugitive.
Internally, Patel says the bureau cleared a 1.8 million-sample lab backlog, saved more than $300 million, and moved 1,000-plus personnel into field operations as part of a broader overhaul.
