Rennae Stubbs said Aryna Sabalenka crossed a line by smashing her racket before fully completing the post-match greeting with US Open champion Elena Rybakina.
On her podcast, Stubbs said the scene put Rybakina in an awkward position at the net and detracted from the winner's moment after Saturday's final.
Stubbs said it was not an isolated incident, pointing to Sabalenka's Australian Open loss to Madison Keys, when she said the Belarusian also destroyed a racket before the handshake.
The criticism adds to scrutiny of the world No. 1 after her latest Grand Slam final defeat, though Sabalenka is still expected to return at the China Open starting Sept. 30.
