Ranchers said the import plan has jolted prices: Nebraska producer Jaclyn Wilson said she received $175 less per head after the announcement, while others warned volatility is complicating herd-rebuilding decisions.
Drought across cattle country and higher diesel costs linked to the Iran war are already squeezing margins, leaving producers split between wanting stronger incentives to rebuild herds and less government intervention.
