Summary
DHS and CBP said the administration has now gone 16 straight months without releasing migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border, extending what they called an unprecedented streak.
August Border Patrol apprehensions fell to 8,870—down 5% from July and 94% below the average month under Joe Biden—while DHS reported zero parole releases versus more than 10,000 in August 2024.
Drug enforcement also intensified, with fiscal-year seizures up 73% from the same 2024 period under Biden and 61% above the past four-year average.
August cocaine seizures rose 28% to 6,724 pounds, and CBP and ICE also seized more than 120,000 pounds of precursor chemicals.
The border push also includes a $46 billion wall and technology buildout in Arizona, where construction began despite a Tohono O'odham Nation lawsuit that a federal judge rejected.
