Relatives described barracks destroyed, troops moved into tents, repeated deployment extensions and mounting trauma, while more than 1,250 family members were evacuated from Bahrain and told they will not return soon.
CENTCOM says withholding details protects operational security, but families say the secrecy obscures the risks facing roughly 40,000 U.S. troops stationed at regional bases outside the main 50,000-member war deployment.
