201 grams makes the Galaxy Z Fold8 Samsung’s lightest foldable yet and, by the company’s account, the world’s lightest book-style foldable, down 52 grams from the 253-gram Z Fold5.
Samsung said the weight drop came from redesigning the device end to end: Flex Titanium display support, ultra-thin 0.2 mm metal structures, and hinge engineering tailored to repeated folding loads.
About 270 components and more than 180 auxiliary-part types were reviewed, with roughly 15 eliminated and some parts trimmed by as little as 0.001 grams to recover space and weight.
That saved capacity was redirected into flagship features rather than stripped out; the 215-gram Z Fold8 Ultra keeps the Z Fold7’s weight while raising battery capacity to 5,000 mAh from 4,400 mAh.
Samsung framed the push as a response to foldable-buyers’ priorities—durability, battery life and display quality—and to concerns that heavy, bulky designs still deter mainstream adoption.
