Kennedy Center Supporters Rally Against Trump Demolition Plan as Plaster Fall Shut Venue This Week

Hundreds of Kennedy Center supporters led by workers rallied Friday in the biggest protest yet against President Trump’s push to close, remake and possibly demolish the arts institution.
Late Wednesday photos taken through Air Force One windows appeared to show Trump reviewing a board labeled “Kennedy Center DEMOLISHED,” and those images were added to an existing lawsuit over the center’s fate.
Safety concerns intensified the fight this week after a large chunk of plaster fell from the ceiling, prompting a temporary closure of the venue.
Artists, former performers and local officials joined the demonstration, including the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., actress Lynda Carter and D.C. Council member Robert White.
The rally comes after roughly 18 months of Trump stewardship marked by plunging ticket sales and a talent exodus, deepening fears over the center’s future.
