St. John Eudes Parish in Chatsworth drew loved ones, residents and city leaders Thursday for a candlelight vigil honoring five people killed in two crashes hours apart earlier this week.
2 victims died when a suspected DUI driver traveling the wrong way T-boned a Metro bus near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue just after 5 p.m. — Daniel Castillo, 46, and Gage Weida, 31.
About 2 hours later, NewsChopper4 crashed between commercial buildings on North Mason Avenue while covering the bus collision, killing aerial reporter Eliana Moreno, 38, pilot George Marciniw and ground victim Edy Gutierrez Mejia, 29.
Family and co-workers at the vigil described Weida as dependable and Castillo as devoted to his family; Castillo is survived by 4 children.
A memorial with portraits of all 5 victims remains outside the church through the weekend for community condolences.
