Summary
Saturday's opening-night celebration gives invited guests a first look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, three days before the Los Angeles institution opens to the public.
George Lucas and Mellody Hobson founded the five-story museum to showcase visual storytelling across cultures and media, with inaugural exhibitions spanning heroes, myths, family, fantasy and adventure.
More than 1,300 works are on view across over 30 galleries, including pieces by Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Gordon Parks and Charles Schulz.
The museum also houses the complete Lucas Archives from 1971 to 2012, with "Star Wars in Motion" displaying concept art, props and costumes tied to vehicles from the first six films.
Exposition Park gains a broader public campus as well: a 13-acre park with 300 new trees, two theaters, a free research library and a restaurant open beyond ticketed visitors.
