Gordon Chang said the U.S. is entering a “very dangerous period,” arguing Xi Jinping is preparing China’s military and civilian society for conflict before Thursday’s Washington summit with Donald Trump.
Thursday’s meeting comes just 4 months after the leaders last met in May, with AI and trade expected to dominate talks even as Chang says Xi is unwilling to compromise.
Wall Street Journal reporting cited in the interview said Chinese entities provided Iran satellite images of a Jordan airbase before an attack that killed 3 U.S. troops, which Chang called evidence China is “deliberately killing Americans.”
Xi’s stance may harden further because he faces Communist Party turbulence at home, while Middle East conflict and the AI race have made this summit more fraught than the May meeting.
