SSI Sends October Payments Up to $994 in 11 Days

Q: Why might you suddenly receive two SSI deposits this October, and what happens if you spend the second one too soon?

You might see two SSI deposits in October because of a calendar shift, not because of extra money. SSI is normally paid on the first of the month. In 2026, recipients get their regular October payment on Oct. 1, and then the November payment arrives early on Oct. 30 because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday. That means the second October deposit is simply November’s benefit paid in advance. The practical effect is that after the Oct. 30 payment, there is no new SSI payment on Nov. 1. The next regular SSI deposit after that would be Dec. 1. If you spend that second deposit too soon, the main risk is a cash shortfall in November. Beneficiaries can mistake the early payment for a bonus or extra check, but it must cover the following month’s bills. The Social Security Administration’s payment calendar makes clear that early month-end SSI payments are shifted timing, not added benefits. There is also a separate issue to watch: SSI has strict resource limits, generally $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple. Money left in a bank account on the first day of a month can count toward those limits. An early payment that remains unspent by Nov. 1 could affect eligibility if it pushes countable resources above the cap. If that happens, benefits for that month can be reduced or lost, and any overpayment may have to be repaid. The safest approach is to budget the Oct. 30 deposit as November’s money and verify payment dates through SSA or a my Social Security account.
