Minnesota’s Department of Human Services confirmed open investigations into Milestone Development Center and Spectrum Therapy Center, two autism providers already terminated from Medicaid under the state’s 2026 revalidation process.
Milestone is run by Nimco Ahmed, a longtime friend of Democratic Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan who appeared beside her in a viral video defending Minnesota’s Somali community, tying the probe to Flanagan politically.
Alpha News cited former therapist Grant Morgan, who said he saw little qualified supervision at Milestone in late 2023, no requests for signed session notes, and possible Medicaid billing red flags.
Ahmed denied the allegations, saying the outlet was biased because she is Somali, and maintained Milestone had proper oversight, served children with autism diagnoses, and complied with state audit requirements.
The investigation added to scrutiny of Flanagan, Minnesota’s lieutenant governor since 2019, as critics again question how state leaders handled a broader fraud scandal involving Somali-linked programs.
