Summary
Two crew members died after a Eurocopter AS32 crashed just before 3 p.m. PT Sunday while conducting suppression operations on Yosemite National Park’s Dome Fire, the US Forest Service said.
The aircraft had been contracted to the Forest Service’s Price Valley Rappel Crew in Idaho, and the two victims were the only people aboard when it went down.
FlyPrecision, also known as Precision LLC, confirmed the deaths of two team members, calling the loss devastating.
The FAA, NTSB and Forest Service are investigating; NTSB investigators had not yet reached the scene and said a preliminary report would be posted within 30 days when fire conditions allow.
The Dome Fire grew by 283 acres Saturday night and stood at 3,222 acres with 15% containment as of Monday morning.
