Burnham to Meet Trump at UN, Launching UK-US AI Partnership

New York talks on Tuesday will give Prime Minister Andy Burnham his first face-to-face meeting with Donald Trump since taking office in July, with Burnham saying he expects to find “common ground.”
The meeting comes as Burnham prepares a UN speech urging closer international cooperation on AI, a lasting peace in Ukraine and renewed efforts to end the Middle East conflict.
A new UK-US AI and Autonomy partnership is due to be unveiled alongside the visit, aimed at using AI to protect critical national infrastructure.
Downing Street also highlighted a defence milestone before the meeting: a 12-metre British undersea drone fired a US heavyweight torpedo in UK waters for the first time.
The encounter carries wider stakes for the bilateral relationship, with Burnham also seeking a resolution over the stalled Chagos Islands deal and the future of the Diego Garcia base.
