DoorDash said the underpayments were unintentional — "we screwed up" — while Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the company systematically shortchanged workers and tied the conduct to a "greedy algorithm."
The deal also requires three years of payment-data submissions and funds software for workers to record app activity and share pay data with the city, expanding scrutiny of delivery-app algorithms.
City Hall called it the largest municipal settlement for food-delivery workers in U.S. history, following smaller 2026 settlements with Uber Eats-linked companies and HungryPanda.
