OpenAI Brings Voice Workflows to Mobile App as GPT-Live Expands Beyond Desktop

OpenAI on Wednesday added voice-based agentic tools to its mobile app, letting users trigger workflows such as drafting documents, writing emails and summarizing Slack messages from a phone.
Plus and Pro subscribers get a Work tab on mobile with tasks including site building, presentations, cloud browsing and access to areas like finances, while Free and Go users can use plugins and connected apps.
The update also makes voice chats more useful on mobile with richer text output, easier switching between text and voice, and handoff from a phone session to desktop.
The rollout extends capabilities OpenAI began with GPT-Live in July and later brought to desktop Work and Codex tabs, as voice commands gain traction for more complex AI tasks.
Anthropic has also streamlined mobile-to-desktop handoff and merged its Cowork and Chat interface, but OpenAI is still keeping chat and workspaces separate.
