Summary
$246,000 to $690,000 in family investments tied to North Carolina's data center buildout appeared in Michael Whatley's federal disclosure, putting the GOP Senate nominee's stance on expansion under new scrutiny.
Most of the holdings sit in Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, GE Vernova and Arista Networks—companies that supply power, turbines, grid equipment or networking used by data centers rather than building them directly.
Whatley also reported $361,000 in 2025 consulting income from CAPCVentures LLC, whose listed clients include GE Vernova, adding another link to the industry at issue.
His campaign said he backs a congressional stock-trading ban and blind trusts, while arguing data centers should cover their own power and grid costs and local communities should decide which projects proceed.
The disclosure lands as Whatley and Democrat Roy Cooper head toward the Nov. 3 North Carolina Senate election, with both camps attacking each other's record on data center subsidies, ratepayer costs and local control.
