iOS 27 introduces iPhone Handoff, letting one phone number move between two iPhones, with calls, voicemail, messages and Find My shifting to whichever device is active.
Both phones must run iOS 27, share the same Apple Account and use carrier-supported eSIMs; the number stays active on only one iPhone at a time, not as two live lines.
T-Mobile in the U.S. and Telekom in Germany support the feature now, while Verizon and EE plan support later this year; AT&T has not committed.
T-Mobile charges $5 monthly, while Deutsche Telekom charges €6.95 on plans without included multi-SIM; ending the service requires contacting the carrier to avoid ongoing charges.
Apple says Apple Watch pairing, some Wallet items, and carrier features such as Caller ID and call forwarding remain tied to the designated main iPhone.
