Janša Rips UN Gaza Focus, Says Trump Promised Slovenia Visit

Janez Janša said at the UN General Assembly that Gaza has dominated debate while Russia's war in Ukraine and other crises receive too little attention, and said he will press that point in his Thursday speech.
The Slovenian prime minister argued the UN is applying double standards by concentrating diplomatic energy, money and security tools on one conflict instead of addressing threats closer to Europe, including Ukraine and persecution in Nigeria.
Janša also attacked Europe's approach to Iran, saying some governments back Ukraine while overlooking Tehran's ties to Moscow and its role in Middle East instability.
His remarks fit a broader foreign-policy shift since he returned to power in 2026, moving Slovenia away from the previous government's pro-Palestinian steps and toward warmer ties with Israel and Washington.
In New York, Janša said Donald Trump gave a positive response to his invitation to visit Slovenia, highlighting the country's personal link to the White House through Slovenia-born First Lady Melania Trump.
