Trump Urged to Warn Xi on 7-Month Iran War as China Faces Alliance Scrutiny

Thursday’s White House meeting with Xi Jinping is being framed by analyst Jonathan Schanzer as a chance for Donald Trump to demand China halt support that he says is bolstering Iran during the nearly 7-month U.S.-Iran war.
Chinese backing allegedly spans drone parts, dual-use chemicals and economic ties that Schanzer says help sustain Iran’s military pressure and wider oil-market disruption.
Beijing’s posture drew added attention after Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Iran’s Abbas Araghchi last week that China was ready to play a “constructive role” in resolving disputes.
A senior U.S. official said Trump and Xi already agreed in mid-May that Iran must not get a nuclear weapon and that the Strait of Hormuz should reopen without tolls.
Schanzer cast the Iran issue within broader U.S.-China rivalry, arguing Washington must also deter pressure on Taiwan because of its strategic role in global chip supply and the AI race.
