Android 17 QPR1, released last week for Pixel phones, is drawing sharply mixed user feedback, with some calling it a major improvement and others one of Google's buggiest updates.
Battery reports are especially divided: one Pixel 9 user posted 8.5 hours of screen-on time, while other Pixel 10 and Pixel 6 owners also reported gains and at least three separate threads described worse endurance.
Performance complaints center on lag and choppiness after the update, with Pixel 7, Pixel 8 and Pixel 9a users reporting slowdowns, though other owners said they saw no such issues.
Google had tested the release through 9 beta versions starting in April and added 20-plus bug fixes in the final build, underscoring the gap between pre-release polishing and real-world results.
Workarounds shared by users include clearing app cache, rebooting, testing in Safe Mode and, for persistent problems, a factory reset—especially on older devices such as the Pixel 7 or Pixel 8.
