Mike Lee Renews SAVE Act Push After 30,000 Noncitizens Landed on Voter Rolls

More than 30,000 self-declared noncitizens were added to U.S. voter rolls since 2000, prompting Sen. Mike Lee to attack Senate resistance to his SAVE America Act.
Reuters traced the registrations across 11 states to software glitches and clerical errors rather than an organized illegal-registration effort, and said it could not determine how many actually cast ballots.
Lee told the Senate the current self-attestation system makes noncitizen voting laws hard to enforce, arguing his bill would require proof of citizenship at registration and photo ID at the polls.
The measure has House passage and President Donald Trump’s backing but remains stalled in the Senate, even as New Jersey recently disclosed 6,600 self-identified noncitizens on its rolls and fewer than 400 ballots cast.
