Utah Valley University Report Finds 10 Security Failures in Charlie Kirk Killing

A 158-page independent review commissioned by Utah Valley University found the school applied its own security policies inconsistently and provided inadequate protection for Charlie Kirk’s Sept. 10, 2025 campus speech.
The report said no one at UVU acted in bad faith, but it identified 10 key findings, including no officer assigned to monitor security cameras and staffing and training levels unsuited to a high-profile outdoor event.
Key decision points began Aug. 25, when officials kept the central courtyard venue despite control concerns; the event was approved Aug. 27 without a documented security assessment, and campus police first coordinated directly with TPUSA security on Sept. 3.
Texts on Sept. 8 and Sept. 10 showed TPUSA security and UVU police focused mainly on the Hall of Flags walkway, while prosecutors allege Tyler Robinson climbed the Losee Center and fired the fatal shot from there.
The findings land as Kirk’s family pursues a wrongful-death claim, arguing the report confirms UVU was understaffed and unprepared, while the university says it will act on the review’s recommendations.
