Crusoe Scraps $1.25 Billion Boom Turbine Deal as Abilene Power Needs Shift

Crusoe and Boom said turbines no longer fit Crusoe’s near-term primary power mix at Abilene and other AI data center sites, where the company is staying flexible across grid, gas, wind, solar and batteries.
Abilene’s existing 1.2-gigawatt Oracle-OpenAI campus runs on the grid with gas turbines only for backup, while a separate 900-megawatt Microsoft site there is being built with on-site gas turbines.
For Boom, the loss removes an early anchor customer for a business it launched last year to sell 42-megawatt natural-gas turbines derived from its Symphony jet engine, though it says about 250 megawatts will ship next year and 1 gigawatt is targeted for 2028.
