Palm Beach County Halts 50-MW Data Centers for 1 Year as Residents Fight Project Tango

Palm Beach County commissioners voted 6-0 on Thursday to pause new data center planning and construction for one year, covering projects with anticipated peak electrical loads of at least 50 megawatts.
The moratorium gives county officials time to review environmental effects, noise, water use and electricity-bill impacts after residents tied those concerns to the proposed Project Tango development.
Project Tango already has approvals dating to 2016 for a 202-acre site about 20 miles from Mar-a-Lago, though commissioners in July rejected a roughly 1.67 million-square-foot expansion by a 6-1 vote.
The move puts one of the nation's wealthiest counties at odds with Donald Trump's push to speed AI infrastructure, after he warned this month that communities rejecting data centers would become 'backwards and poor.'
