Summary
Google is pushing its new Health Guardian features to Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 users this week through version 5.09 of the Google Health app for Android.
The update adds monthly blood pressure trend reports and insulin resistance estimates, though Google says the insulin feature is not for medical use and not a diabetes pre-screener.
Oct. 1 is the first report date: users need five consecutive days of watch wear in September for blood pressure and seven days and nights for insulin resistance.
Fitbit Air users will get the same trend features later this year only through Google Health Premium, priced at $9.99 a month, while older Fitbit devices are not included.
The launch expands wearable health tracking into a metric usually measured with bloodwork, but Google has not detailed how broadly useful its algorithm will be outside its study.
