Myanmar Military Air Strike Kills 33 at Rakhine Market, Wounds 36

33 people were killed and 36 wounded when a Myanmar military jet dropped two bombs near Kyauktaw’s main wholesale market in rebel-held northern Rakhine, according to the Arakan Army and a senior rescue official.
Noon strikes hit vendors, shoppers and pedestrians at a market that draws traders from across the state; images showed burning buildings, damaged vehicles and part of a nearby bridge destroyed.
The attack is among the deadliest in Rakhine and follows a December air strike on a hospital in Mrauk U that also killed at least 33 people, as the military says it targets only legitimate military sites.
Rakhine has become a major front since the 2021 coup: the Arakan Army has seized 14 of 17 townships, nearly 500,000 people are displaced, and the wider conflict has killed more than 100,000, ACLED says.
