Fox Nation on Tuesday released “Man of Honor: The Michael Monsoor Story,” marking 20 years since the Navy SEAL died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, after shielding two teammates from a grenade blast.
On Sept. 29, 2006, Monsoor was manning a rooftop sniper position with two other SEALs when an enemy fighter threw a grenade onto the roof and into their confined hide site.
Monsoor, closest to the only escape route, shouted “Grenade!” and threw himself onto the explosive instead of fleeing, absorbing the blast and saving the other two SEALs, according to the Navy.
The Navy awarded him the Medal of Honor posthumously at the White House on April 8, 2008, citing “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity” above and beyond the call of duty.
The documentary adds a 20-year retrospective to one of the Iraq War’s best-known acts of battlefield sacrifice, with former teammate Mike Sarraille recalling Monsoor’s loss.
