Padres Jump Ahead 2-0 on 2 First-Inning Homers off Cubs' Boyd

San Diego seized a 2-0 lead in the first inning of NL Wild Card Game 1 when Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado both went deep at Petco Park.
Tatis opened the game by crushing an 83-mph changeup 405 feet to center, then Machado followed by driving an 81-mph changeup 391 feet for another solo shot.
The back-to-back blows put Cubs starter Matthew Boyd in an immediate hole and gave the Padres an early edge in the best-of-three series opener.
Game 1 carries added weight because the winner moves one step closer to the NL Division Series, where the MLB-best Milwaukee Brewers await.
