Mike Tomlin Unveils 12-Year Minecraft City After Leaving NFL Sidelines

Q: Why did Mike Tomlin keep his 12-year Minecraft city secret until now, and what does Tomlinburg reveal about life after the NFL?

Mike Tomlin kept the Minecraft city private because it began as a personal refuge, not a public project. He has said the game was “therapeutic” and helped him detach from the pressure of NFL coaching, making the world a quiet, family-centered space he built largely out of public view. Tomlin also described it as a “secret obsession,” and by his own account he only decided to share it after his children—especially his oldest son—encouraged him to let others see what he had spent 12 years creating. Tomlinburg reveals that life after the NFL has given Tomlin room to show a more personal, less guarded side. The city started as a way to connect with his kids when they were young and grew across PlayStation 3, PS4 and PS5, with his family helping preserve the world as technology changed. Its scale and detail—streets, ballfields, rooftops, penthouses and even HVAC-like features—suggest the same patience, structure and long-term thinking that defined his coaching career, now redirected into a creative outlet. It also shows how retirement from the sideline has shifted Tomlin from constant competitive pressure to a more flexible rhythm. Now working in broadcasting, he has more time to expand the project and present it as a YouTube series. In that sense, Tomlinburg is more than a novelty: it is evidence that his post-Steelers life is not simply about analyzing football, but about reclaiming hobbies, family connections and control over his time.

Q: What started as gaming with his kids became a 12-year digital city—but what exactly is inside Mike Tomlin’s long-hidden Minecraft world?

Mike Tomlin’s hidden Minecraft world is a sprawling, urban-style city that includes streets, a baseball field, detailed downtown buildings, and elaborate rooftops with features resembling HVAC units, with penthouses and “urban living” spaces playing a major role in the first public tour. What is clearly known so far comes from Tomlin’s teaser and the description of his new YouTube series, “My 12 Year Minecraft City Build.” Episode 1 focuses on rooftops, penthouses and downtown properties, including what Tomlin called the first building in the city’s core. The preview footage also shows a dense block-style skyline, road grids and a ballpark, suggesting the build is less a single structure than a carefully planned metropolis. Tomlin has said the world began as a way to play with and connect with his children, then grew into a 12-year project that he carried across PlayStation 3, PS4 and PS5. He built it in Minecraft’s Creative mode, allowing him to focus on architecture and expansion rather than survival gameplay. There are still limits to what the public has seen. Tomlin and his son Dino have said the full tour is too long for one upload and will be released in sections, so much of “Tomlinburg,” as fans have dubbed it, remains unrevealed. But based on the early footage and Tomlin’s own description, the city appears to be a highly detailed, long-running digital metropolis centered on downtown design, rooftop infrastructure and residential luxury spaces.
