Summary
Game 1 of the Yankees-Rays ALDS starts Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field, the clubs’ first playoff meeting in a home-ballpark series and a matchup to decide who moves toward the ALCS.
Drew Rasmussen gets the ball for Tampa Bay after going 5-2 with a 1.81 ERA against New York this season, while the Yankees have not chosen between Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón.
55-26 is the Rays’ home record at Tropicana Field, where they open a best-of-five after winning the season series 7-6; the series then shifts to Yankee Stadium.
Aaron Judge remains a key injury watch for New York as he works back from a right calf strain, while Tampa Bay enters with several pitching injuries, including Shane McClanahan unavailable for the series.
2020 was the only previous Yankees-Rays playoff matchup, a neutral-site ALDS won by Tampa Bay, giving this series added weight in one of the AL East’s most persistent rivalries.
