Summary
$200 Anker Soundcore Space 2 Pro led Engadget’s affordable alternatives to Apple’s $549 AirPods Max, positioned as the best overall pick for buyers willing to give up deep iOS integration and premium materials.
The guide said the tradeoff buys solid performance: ANC driven by Anker’s Thus AI chip and eight sensors, strong call quality from six microphones, physical controls, multipoint Bluetooth and 30 hours of battery life with ANC on.
$359 Bose QuietComfort Headphones were named the best ANC-focused alternative, while Beats 360 was highlighted for workouts thanks to IPX4 sweat resistance and Apple-friendly features such as one-touch pairing and Find My support.
For tighter budgets, Engadget pointed to the $99 Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT for sound, comfort and 60-hour battery life despite lacking ANC, and gave an honorable mention to the $299 Fender Mix for replaceable battery design and 52-hour endurance.
