Q: How will Carter Hart handle the pressure of being Vegas's top goalie against a hungry and youthful Anaheim offense?

Carter Hart looks equipped to handle it, but Anaheim’s speed and shot volume should make this a real early test rather than a comfortable night. The immediate evidence is encouraging for Vegas. Hart opened the season by stopping 24 of 26 shots in a 5-2 win over Chicago, a steady performance that fit the role Vegas wants from him: calm, efficient, and supported by a deep roster. He also answered bigger pressure last spring, posting a 2.56 goals-against average and .909 save percentage over 22 playoff games as Vegas reached the Stanley Cup Final. That suggests he can perform when the stakes rise. Still, Anaheim is a more dangerous matchup than a typical young team. The Ducks were one of the NHL’s best rush offenses last season, led the league in inferenced shot attempts off the rush, and ranked in the top 10 in high-danger, midrange and long-range shots on goal. Cutter Gauthier’s elite shot, along with the speed of Leo Carlsson and Beckett Sennecke, means Hart will likely face layered pressure rather than just perimeter looks. Vegas should help him by controlling possession and leaning on one of the league’s deepest blue lines. Ryan Craig also appears committed to balancing the goaltending workload with Adin Hill, which could keep Hart fresher than he was during stretches last season. So the pressure is real, but the setup favors Hart. If he tracks Anaheim’s rush chances cleanly and Vegas limits second opportunities, he should be able to give the Golden Knights the edge.
