FAA Says 737 MAX Software Glitch Is Not a Safety Risk in Certain Aborted Landings

Summary
Friday’s FAA review found a software issue on some Boeing 737 MAX jets does not pose a safety concern, despite affecting automated flight guidance during certain aborted landings.
The agency said pilots retain full control of the aircraft, leading its Corrective Action Review Board and a panel of aircraft, avionics, flight-test and operational-safety experts to clear the issue.
Boeing will send airlines guidance on how to recognize and respond to the glitch, while the FAA plans a safety bulletin for U.S. and foreign regulators.
The determination limits the immediate fallout to operational guidance rather than grounding or other urgent safety action.
