Declassified Records Show 2 Smith Aides Met Brennan in 2023, Undercutting Senate Testimony

Summary
Two assistant special counsels and FBI agents met former CIA Director John Brennan at CIA headquarters in November 2023 to discuss expert testimony for Trump’s classified-documents case, newly declassified White House records show.
The records cut against Jack Smith’s Senate testimony last week that he had “never met” Brennan and had no recollection of speaking with him, after Chuck Grassley asked whether Brennan had provided consultation or counsel.
Grassley said the meeting amounted to Brennan giving Smith’s team consultation and called Smith’s answer “highly evasive and misleading,” adding to Republican claims of bias and overreach in the Trump investigations.
The release also included two redacted CIA-header note pages tied to Brennan, but the documents do not show he had firsthand knowledge of Trump’s handling of classified records.
Smith has denied political motivation and said his decisions were driven by evidence, while attorneys for Smith and the Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment.
