Summary
Tuesday in the post-debate spin room, Maryland Republican gubernatorial nominee Dan Cox said he "absolutely" rejects antisemitic remarks attributed to his adult son and said he called him to express anger.
The messages, first reported Monday by Jewish Insider, allegedly called Jewish people pedophiles, "scum who killed my savior Jesus" and followers of a "Synagogue of Satan."
Alexandra Levine, a Republican consultant, said she posted screenshots of private messages from Josiah Cox in a public Facebook forum; the post was later deleted and The Washington Post could not independently verify it.
Cox said his son apologized, while also accusing Democrats of planting an unflattering story about his family as the controversy hit his campaign after Tuesday's debate with Gov. Wes Moore.
