Summary
North and Middle Georgia could see heavy rain, strong winds and some tornadoes from Friday evening through Saturday as Tropical Storm Isaias strengthens in the southeastern Gulf.
The National Hurricane Center expects Isaias to become the Atlantic season’s first hurricane by Thursday, then make landfall late Friday or early Saturday between southeastern Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle.
Metro Atlanta’s exact impacts remain uncertain, but the National Weather Service warned the storm could bring severe weather across much of the state and localized flooding into the weekend.
Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are forecast across parts of the Southeast, with isolated areas reaching 6 inches; the Tennessee Valley and Carolinas could also be affected.
Travel plans are already in focus: Georgia fans heading to Tuscaloosa for Saturday night’s Alabama game may face heavy rain, though the university said it has no plans to change the matchup.
