Summary
AMD said AI-based FSR 4 will reach existing APUs, gaming handhelds and gaming laptops before 2027, extending the upscaling tech beyond Radeon RX 7000 and 9000 graphics cards.
Jack Huynh said the rollout depends on a new lightweight FSR 4 model built for APU environments, aiming to preserve image quality and low latency on less powerful hardware.
That would give current Ryzen-powered handhelds official access to machine-learning upscaling, replacing the gap between FSR 3 and FSR 4 that users have only bridged with unofficial hacks.
The move also targets stronger competition from Intel's G3 and G3 Extreme handheld chips, which Intel says deliver about 42% better performance than Ryzen Z2 Extreme at 35W.
