Summary
Ed Miliband summoned Iran’s ambassador after Britain linked last month’s RAF Fairford incident to Tehran and warned it would not tolerate threats on UK soil.
Two Iranians — including the head of Iran’s counterespionage operations — were hit with travel bans and asset freezes as Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the airbase episode was almost certainly directed by the IRGC.
Seven men in their 20s have been arrested and bailed over three suspicious vehicles found near the Gloucestershire base on 27 September, when police evacuated dozens of homes and sealed off the area.
Twenty-nine countries, including the US, Canada, France and Germany, issued a joint statement condemning Iranian attacks ranging from lethal plots to cyber-attacks and backing the UK’s attribution; Iran denied involvement.
RAF Fairford has been used by US bombers for Middle East missions, and Burnham said further sanctions remain possible as the government prepares another Commons update.
