Mariners Target 4 Veteran Manager Candidates After Dan Wilson Exit

Summary
Seattle is casting a wide external search for Dan Wilson’s replacement, with ownership prioritizing prior major league managerial experience to bring stability to the dugout.
Four reported candidates are Joe Espada, Rocco Baldelli, Brandon Hyde and David Ross — all with playoff or championship credentials and established big-league resumes.
Espada appears a leading option after the Mariners received permission to speak with him; the Astros manager went 256-229 with 2 AL West titles after serving on Houston’s 2022 World Series-winning staff.
Baldelli, Hyde and Ross offer different profiles: Baldelli went 527-505 with 3 AL Central titles in Minnesota, Hyde led Baltimore to a 101-win 2023 season, and Ross went 262-284 in 4 seasons with the Cubs.
Hiring any of them would mark a break from Seattle’s recent pattern — the Mariners have not hired a manager with prior MLB experience since Lloyd McClendon in 2013.
