Mamdani Accuses Blakeman of Racism After 1 Debate, Defending Hochul’s Response

Summary
Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday called Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman a regular source of “bigotry and racism” after Blakeman’s only scheduled debate with Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Mamdani made the charge while acknowledging he did not watch the full debate live, saying he saw only a clip and arguing Hochul could not be expected to answer every attack from Blakeman.
Bruce Blakeman had used the debate to accuse Mamdani of antisemitism and to fault Hochul over New York’s sanctuary policies, tying them to last week’s Bronx ICE shooting of a 28-year-old Dominican national.
Kathy Hochul called Blakeman’s answer on the ICE incident a “non-answer,” saying he failed to condemn agents who fired into a vehicle carrying a 5-year-old boy, while Blakeman said the episode stemmed from her policies.
