Summary
Meta released Muse Spark Open’s weights, calling the 816 billion-parameter system the most capable U.S. open-weight model and the first in its class to run on a desktop setup using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios.
Apple’s latest MLX framework underpins that local deployment, with Meta saying the model is natively multimodal and built for long-horizon tasks, complex software engineering and multi-step reasoning.
Mark Zuckerberg and new Apple CEO John Ternus publicly endorsed the launch on X, underscoring an unusual collaboration between longtime rivals that Axios said had been in the works for months.
Apple also published a technical post on MLX, Muse Spark Open and other open models, signaling a broader push to position Mac Studio hardware for high-end on-device AI workloads.
